Sunday mornings are always a mix of emotions, your happy it's
not Monday yet you still feel rough because your ridiculously hungover from the night
before. What always makes me happy is receiving calls from equally hungover
friends demanding that the only way they are going to be able to make it through the day is by gauging on a serious Breakfast...and that YOU have been cordially invited to join such festivities!
On Sunday I was awoken by my dear friend Jodie Kaye (Hebrew name - Shoshanna) explaining that I had to try this little cafe near her house for brunch. And what a
sweet like place this was. Situated a little bit outside the realms of London,
i.e St Albans, is the home of the Breakfast Club, a quirky little cafe lined with shelves
of novels and cookery books to get lost in whilst trying to come to terms with
how horrible you feel.
The menu is big, with every egg combination option under the
sun. The restaurant has even incorporated breakfast options from around the
world, for example they have a breakfast buritto for when your feeling
slightly Mexican in the morning. Or the pancake/muffin selection, where you can get stacks of American pancakes drizzled with homemade maple syrup, whipped cream and all the other toppings that will by far surpass your daily calorie intake!
Not that I care or anything, I don't even count calories
So lets take a look at what we ordered:
We have the Breakfast slider: 2 mini burgers with 2 poached eggs, with a helping of hollandaise sauce
Charlotte's verdict : Eggs and hollandaise sauce were to dye for, but the burgers were slightly bland . Perhaps eggs and burgers were not the right choice for the perfect hangover cure. |
Food choice number 2 leads us to Jodie's vegetarian brekkie : 2 poached eggs on 2 muffins with mushrooms, topped off with their infamous hollandaise sauce and a "veggie sausage" - if you can even call it a sausage.
And finally to my selection. What is great about this place is that you can technically just order anything you want, mix and match whatever you desire. I ended up having 2 poached eggs, minus the hollandaise sauce, on a bagel, with spinach, mushrooms and 2 pieces of crispy bacon all topped off with a helpful dollop of ketchup.
IMPORTANT FACT NUMBER 1: Breakfast is not complete without ketchup, if you think differently, to say it simply your wrong.
NOM NOM NOM |
All the food not only looked good, but tasted good.
It was cheap and the portions were big...which is what I like to see!
Only criticism - they make an awful brew!
Stay clear of the tea.
Check them out at their website and do give them a visit
UNTIL NEXT TIME...
